TDIL: F-16 Fighting Falcon was nicknamed the Viper by those close to the project. Thanks google-machine! And that the generals near the project didn't want the plane named after a damned snake.

Yes, and the Street and Racing Technology Team used to regularly attend 'Luke Days' every other year for the big airshow out there. The events for the weekend typically include Viper vs. Viper drag racing and thrill rides in SRT Vipers (and other SRT products) for the entire Training Squadron. Some of the SRT guys may or may not have flown in F-16's and driven other USAF ground equipment, too... ;-)
